It is very hard for any website to get rankings and traffic in today’s competitive market. Unless you run a super-niche website with few competing websites, the chances are you face a minimum of 12 months from launch to start seeing any real traffic.

Getting links into your site and also having lots of pages linked together on your own website are very important. One of the ways you can encourage cross linking is to build some form of application that users will use to benefit themselves. A recently relaunch of an old established site has done just this – www.oilpaintingsonline.com has created a facility or artists to create their own gallery, which are then public on the site for others to see (which creates site-cross linking) and also they can share their gallery by creating a Facebook or Myspace plug-in. This is really neat as it will provide some great inbound links to the site from users own micros sites

If you are an artist struggling to sell art online, you should scout around and take a look at these sort of feature s- several free online galleries have the ability for you to post and promote your art at no cost at all.

Keep on being an artist. For the last two or three days I have been working on portraits, not on blogs or marketing. At least twice a week I take time to join in a live drawing session or a get an online critique. A great online teacher is Johannes Vloothuis at http://cyberartlearning.com , Johannes has a lot of knowledge, he knows how to teach and gives a great critique. 39 USD for 4 sessions. It is worth many times that amount. You have to keep working on your art.

Make sure you stay in touch with your blog and twitter verse at least with short notes and photos of your work in progress. Give them a reason to keep coming back to your blog

If you care to see what I have been working on in addition to this 30 day challenge, check out http://www.jeremymckay.com/artist. Please leave a comment. In the mean while, I do have 30 preloaded images for the 30 day challenge. So I can easily drop one on the testing blog and get a paypal button and offer another master piece to the fans of my pseudonym.

What a good post should contain , so I am posting on a daily basis to my pen name blog. We haven’t really talked about what a good post should contain. These are some pointers from Mark Joyners Affiliate Marketing Program.

A Compelling Title — Why should I read this?

A seductive introduction — Your art will handle this once the reader gets there, but before they do you need to say something seductive about your piece. Things like what were you trying to achieve. What you want the viewer to see. Tell them what you are expressing in the painting. Do not just hope they will get it. Were you successful or did this turn out to be a decent study for a theme you will be returning to. Do not shy away from honestly sharing your results with your readers. If they know you are going to keep posting and improving they will be more likely to return. Not everything you create will be a masterpiece, but your collectors are interested in your growth and direction. Nothing shows that better than works in progress and studies.

3 to 5 details about your work. Perhaps the pallet you are using, colors, and challenges to yourself as you completed the work. What materials did you use to put the piece together. How you arrived at the choices for your composition. Did you learn anything from this piece.

Wrap it up, restate your introduction. If you are offering prints online at ImageKind or some place similar, make the offer here with a link. If you are selling the original, put the paypal button tight in your blog post.

Well these are some basics, that will help when you do not know what to post. Keep the 4 point in mind for everything you post on your blog. Check in Tomorrow for How To Create a Paypal Button.

Please feel free to leave comments or suggestions.

Jeremy
